Barak Obama - The 44th President of the United States

Thank you, Daddy Dear, for the opportunity

My name is Chris Wylie, son of Bob Wylie and Margy Davis.

John P. Davis was my grandfather. I called him Daddy Dear.

Growing up, I heard the stories told about the

publisher-writer-civil rights leader who helped make America a

better place for all its people. I just knew him as the funny man

who pretended he was going to sit on me if I sat in his chair. I

remember the man who let me stay up late if he was babysitting. I

remember that he loved me.

I am thinking about my Daddy Dear today because this morning I cast

a vote for Barack Obama. I wonder if my grandfather knew that his

grandson would have the opportunity to vote for a black man for

President. I wonder if he dreamed of that black man being favored to

win.

I hope that everyone of us who are familiar with John P. Davis will

take a moment to recognize that our chance to vote for Senator Obama

is due, in large measure, to the work John Davis did so many years

ago. I was too young to know what he did for me while he lived. But

now, on an historic election day, I want to proudly say: I voted. I

voted for Barack Obama. Thank you, Daddy Dear, for the opportunity.

I am over the top about the outcome...thinking about all those in our family who have passed away..of whom would have been so proud to have liveed to see this day!!!!! I praise God that He has allowed me to see this day!!!!!! Love. Margy Davis

I am humbled by Barack Obama's win; so grateful for a father and mother who taught me  about my history and heritage. This is indeed a new day that has been paved by men and women who stood in the gap; men and women who struggled against impossible odds to make this world a better place for us all-.I celebrate the fact that mommy and daddy were a vital part of the struggle and I remember my brother Michael who carried on the fight for equality!."This is the day that the LORD has made let us rejoice and be glad in it!"- Miriam Nason
